Ken Pelt grew up in the "Big Thicket" area of East Texas on a small subsistence farm near Sour Lake in Hardin County. Here in the rural community of Pine Ridge, during the 1940's and 1950's, he lived a life much like areas of Appalachia and parts of the rural South. Never having taken painting lessons or painting anything except a house or barn, and being color blind, Ken is not your normal artist. However, wanting to write stories about his boyhood and wanting to illustrate some of the stories with paintings, at 48 years of age he became a folk artist. The resulting combination of folk art paintings and short narratives along with historical and supporting pictures makes for a unique book.
A quality paper back with linen cover and with ninety-two 8 1/2" x 11" pages in Landscape format, this book is sure to please and entertain as it tells stories of a way of life that is gone forever. The book contains seventy-four color photos, twenty-seven black/white photos and five maps and drawings. It is unique to have the artist describe his paintings in his own words. This is the first of three volumes. Don't miss this introductory first.
